Sculptures in Glass and Metal
For the Wall and Free Standing
And Large Scale Public Artworks

The universe of the art of Jill Casty is ever-expanding. This stage of the diverse journey of her always colorful work is exploring the wonders of glass art.

In this major and fulfilling turn, she is focusing on the color-rich expressiveness of dramatic and joyful glass fusions. In one approach, so basic to the original explorations of her work, she blends this unique glass art in ensembles with the power and energy of intricate patterns of metals . These ensembles are wall and standing sculptures, moderate in size, on an intimate scale. They are created for interior spaces, terraces and gardens, residential and public.

And in one variation, single independent painterly panels of fused glass are floated in a framework of varied sculptural open-work metals. In another new direction, bold glass panels, solos or sets, float on walls without metal accompaniment; in another, smaller pieces rise from bases of stainless steel, marble from the Italian quarries at Carrara, and coral from the beaches of Baja California.

Earlier, her art for public sites enlivened and humanized large public spaces, bringing a sense of celebration and grace to an everyday experience. These sculptures use a variety of metals; the aerial art. This new series of wall hanging art features bold images in solo glass fusions without metal accompaniment. These are flat or curved forward and can be displayed singly or in groups. Each image can also be made in multiples, with varying sizes and/or colors. These images will include the essences of flower blossoms, geometric abstractions, and abstractions of landscape moments and moods.employs combinations of materials – metals, Plexiglas, glass itself.

Her work in glass has been called “painterly.” Working in America, Italy and Mexico, she uses glass fusions as a painter uses a brush to create layered rhythms, textures, flowing fields and discrete shapes of color, brilliant or lyrically subdued, color that changes its tones and moods in the play of changing light. Whether or not joined to an equally expressive shaping of the metals, this exuberant glass carries echoes ranging from the dramatic flow and sweep in the canvases of abstract expressionist painters to the angular lyricism of contemporary geometric abstraction.
